UWUA P4A Training and Development Trust Fund Launches 5-Year Scholarship to Henry Ford Community College

Local 223 Training and Development Trust Fund Contributes Scholarship to Henry Ford Community College

Representatives from UWUA P4A, ITC Transmission Company, Utility Lines Construction Services Company, and Henry Ford Community College (HFCC) met in Novi recently for a Scholarship check presentation. The Trustees of UWUA P4A Training and Development Trust approved the scholarship gift to HFCC in appreciation of an ongoing training partnership. Currently, more than twenty apprentices attend classes at HFCC and the college offers ULCS supervision for instruction as well. The Scholarship Agreement is for $1,000, endowed for a five-year duration to students in the electrical field.

Attending the ceremony and presenting the check was CEO Joe Welch of ITC Co., V.P. Lee Ellis of ULCS Co., and Gerry Robertson from the UWUA P4A Training and Development Trust. Accepting the Scholarship Award on behalf of HFCC was Dr. William Barber of Career Education, Gary Saganski of Corp. Training, and Instructors Miles Jarvis, Dan Lindholm, and Mark Sedlik. Although Joe Skupin, Consultant for the Skilled Trades Program was unable to attend, he was recognized for being very instrumental in the process.

UWUA P4A Training and Development Trust Fund Trustee’s Purchase Desktop Computer Packages For Members

The Trustees of UWUA P4A Training and Development Trust approved the spending of more than $50,000 on desktop computers, monitors, and speakers for use by the Transmission/Trades Division members. Union Built P.C. received the contract to provide the equipment and load the software for the Trust. This new equipment will give members ‘loaners’ to borrow while pursuing their required training or continuous education.

For high school juniors who will be completing or leaving high school and entering college in the fall of 2012.

This scholarship program was established by Utility Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO for the children of active members of Utility Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO.

2010 MARSHALL M. HICKS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

In a drawing held on May 8, 2012, the following recipients were selected:

  • Stephen Stewart, son of Derek Stewart (Local 388-Campbell)
  • Brynne Raymond, daughter of Robert Raymond (Local 144-Bay City)

The Council would like to congratulate Stephen and Brynne, and wish them well in the future.

The scholarships will be presented at the Michigan State Utility Workers Council meeting to be held in September 2012.
